The second syllable in compound words "daybreak" and "nightfall" are such harsh verbs, right? And yet they are describing phenomenas that are so gradual and beautiful. That was the launching point of this song. And what type of person would be focused on the harshness of a word, rather than the moment itself?
First single after a long hiatus! The Venn Diagram of this song is: 1. Unreliable narrator? 2. Classic "work song"! 3. What a huge undertaking of building the Erie Canal. And how so many people who worked on it didn't get to see how it all turned out. Which made me think of parenting. And how, God willing, you don't get to see how it all pans out.
